    • Event: 3 Mar 1647; An Act of Parliament restoring the bairns of the laird of Haddo was passed, but Sir John does not appear to have acquired full possession of his estates before the Restoration, when his forfeiture was rescinded in 1661.
    • Event: 14 May 1647; Retoured heir to his father in Kirkton of Tarves and other lands.

  1. 2.  Sir John GORDON, 1st Baronet was born in 1610 (son of George GORDON and Margaret BANNERMAN); died on 19 Jul 1644.

    • Event: 11 May 1630; Was retoured heir general to his grandfather.
    • Event: 4 Jul 1636; Had charter of novodamus of the lands and barony of Haddo.
    • Event: 1639; He was appointed next in command to the Marquess of Huntly over the forces raised to oppose the Covenanters, and was present at the action at Turreff.
    • Event: 1642; He joined the Royal Standard at the Newark and after being engaged in several operations, was sent to Scotland as Lieutenant under George, Marquess of Huntly.
    • Title: From 13 Aug 1642 to 19 Jul 1644; 1st Baronet [Nova Scotia. 1642]
    • Event: 14 Apr 1644; The Marquess of Huntly and Sir John Gordon were excommunicated by the General Assembly.

    Title:
    Created a Baronet [Nova Scotia. 1642] for gallantry at the Battle of Turriff, being 2nd in command of forces raised against the Covenanters (1630) and defender of the House of Kellie against them, though forced to surrender and imprisoned in St. Giles's Cathedral, Edinburgh, where his cell was a recess in the wall which became known as Haddo's Hole (a plate on the wall today marks the spot).

    Died:
    Subsequently executed at the Cross of Edinburgh (the first Royalist to be executed by a judicial sentence), his estates being sequestrated till the Restoration.
